Top Traffic Channels May/June 2010

Interested in which of my various marketing activities work best for my own sites?  Here is a snapshot of the top traffic sources from May / June.

  1. Searches for my name
I am quite happy with this being my top source of traffic.  It´s the online equivalent of word of mouth referral.  I have been focusing on networking activities over the past few weeks, and several new clients have hired me after one of their associates had recommended me for consulting about online marketing campaigns.
  2. Blog comments
I advocate blog commenting as  a great way to drive targeted traffic and build a niche network.  Unfortunately, many people are so focused on the SEO benefits of dofollow links that they overlook the social, human element of leaving quality comments on a blog. I actively look for blogs that deal with topics that interest me, and often leave comments.  Blogs with services such as Disqus and CommentLuv make it easy to promote my website via these comments and many people clicked on my links to head over here and check out the content.
  3. Networked Blogs
I am thrilled to see that setting up the Facebook app Networked Blogs to automatically post my content in my Facebook stream has had such great results!  Registering your blog on Networked Blogs is easy, and once done your posts are inserted into the Facebook stream of anyone who uses the service to follow your blog.  A great time saver and a strong way to promote your content on the top social media site.

Keeping an eye on where your traffic comes from is essential to monitor the success of your online marketing efforts.
