Sometimes the simplest call-to-actions are the best. Case in point: Google’s latest low-tech way to attract people to their Google+ social network. A simple, hand-drawn arrow pointing search users up to the place in their toolbar where they can update their profile.
No fancy messages, just an attention grabbing blatant sign. Universal in all languages, zero maintenance, no A/B testing needed.
Several of my larger clients face the problem of how to get their primary message across quickly without getting too bogged down in long explanations, or losing them in a maze of deep navigation.
While scribbling on your site may not be the answer, how could you lead your visitors to a key page in an eye-catching and simple way?
