Become and early riser… or die trying.

21 March 2010 One Comment

I’m not looking forward to tomorrow.  Or the next day.  Or the day after that.   I am taking up the Lifehack Challenge to become an early riser in 5 days.   Instead of tumbling out of bed between 9 and 10 as I do most days, I will be trying to be up at about by 7am.

My biggest problem is not waking up – it’s getting up. I have tried sleep cycle apps (pretty cool, by the way), daylight alarms and a number of other tricks to try and help me jolt awake with a burst of zingy energy that has me throwing off the duvet and jumping out of bed with a cry of “Zipedeedooda!”   It hasn´t happened since Christmas morning when I was 7.

I like the idea of a group of people across the world trying this; the sense of community makes me feel like I won´t be alone while stumbling around in the dark, cursing the furniture that leaps out to bite at my sleepy toes, and asking myself whether I have the equipment needed to actually create a caffeine IV drip.  Misery, as they say, loves company.

Anyhoo,  I have promised to blog about my experiences here, so check back to see if snagging an extra couple of early bird hours really does help me get more worms.  Just be warned…it may not be pretty!

Okey dokey, so I didn’t quite meet my goal last week of getting up with the crack of dawn. However, I did find something interesting happen- athough I definitely got up earlier than usual, I still felt that I had lost time somehow by not meeting that 7am goal and worked with a frenzied productivity throughout the day to try and compensate.

Unfortunately, that of course led to me being burnt out, grumpy and inefficient by Thursday morning.

So here’s hoping that this week I can find a better balance. I hit the keyboard at 8.15am this morning, so let’s hope that’s good sign.

How did everyone else do with the challenge??
